KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 10): BBCC Development Sdn Bhd, the developer of the Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) project has inked an Agreement to Lease (ATL) today with Zepp Hall Network Inc (Zepp Hall) for a 20 year lease tenure to operate a Zepp branded concert hall at BBCC.
The Zepp concert hall has a built-up of more than 70,000 sq ft, which also makes it the anchor operator in the Entertainment Hub at BBCC. It is set for opening by end-2020 and will be able to accommodate an audience of 2,500.
“This is a very exciting partnership with Zepp Hall and this will be their first hall out of Japan. The developer BBCC will build in this Bukit Bintang City Centre project and Zepp Hall will fit out, equip the space and operate their ‘Zepp’ brand concert hall,” said BBCC Development Sdn Bhd CEO, Datuk Richard Ong (pictured) at a press event today.
“Zepp Kuala Lumpur will also be the first Zepp Hall concert hall to have the ‘VIP Boxes’ concept to cater to companies hosting corporate functions as well as to accommodate private parties attending concerts. There will be eight VIP boxes with their own private lounge and seating area,” Ong added.
One of the key features of Zepp Hall is its unified “Zepp” standard in audio and visual technology which allows sound and lighting effects to be standardised at all Zepp Hall venues. This can be digitally transferred and replicated in subsequent venues, making touring efficient and productive for performers as there is little need for rehearsals and stage set ups at each venue.
According to Ong, the investment cost of Zepp Hall is approximately RM100 million.
Zepp Hall is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc and its core business is in concert operations. To date, Zepp operates five concert halls across Japan in Sapporo, Tokyo (two halls), Nagoya and Osaka. There will be an addition of a new hall in Osaka (Zepp Osaka Bayside) opening on Feb 17.
BBCC sits on 19.4 acres of land and has a GDV of RM8.7 billion to be developed over eight to 10 years. It comprises six blocks of serviced apartments, a retail and entertainment block, a 4-star hotel with branded residences, strata office and an 80-storey 3-in-1 signature tower housing a 5-star hotel, luxury residences and corporate offices. BBCC is a joint development by Uda Holdings Bhd, Eco World Development Group and the Employees Provident Fund Board.
